Eve commented:

I was so sorry to hear of the passing of Sir John Whitmore, a colossus in the profession. His generosity and contributions were huge, including to voluntary organizations and to the professional bodies, and this after a highly successful career as a racing driver. I was lucky enough to do my Master’s degree in Coaching with his organization as a major contributor to the training. It was a hugely enriching experience, that paid attention to the whole being of coach/mentor/ and client. I saw Sir John speak many times and one phrase has always stuck with me and makes increasing sense: “If you have time for only one piece of development, do it on yourself.” We need to understand ourselves first and foremost, as do the clients we work with, in order to be the best we can be.
